Concentrated flavors of fudge, dark chocolate and brownie ends with full body and strong presence. Great black or with milk, brewed as drip or in the press pot.

This proprietary blend has been designed to emulate the power and depth of the Puerto Rican coffee profile and traditional roasting style.

At the end of the 19th century, Puerto Rico was the seventh largest coffee producer in the world. The soil and the climate in Puerto Rico remain ideal for producing coffee, however throughout the 20th century the island moved further and further away from agricultural production. It is estimated that over 90% of the food consumed in Puerto Rico is currently produced off island.

It has been largely through recent movements of a new Eco-Farming community in Puerto Rico that coffee and other agricultural products are beginning to see a resurgence within the local economy. Farmers’ markets are being reestablished and healthful, ecologically based farming methods are gaining popularity much like the locavore food movement has spurred here on the Mainland.

Unfortunately, the devastation of Hurricane Maria has had a traumatic effect on agricultural endeavors on the island. The small scale farmers who picked up their shovels over the past several years have been stopped in their tracks as their infrastructure crumbled under Maria’s winds and their homes and farms have been submerged by floods.

Barth Anderson of Barrington Coffee has been working with four friends who care deeply about the welfare of the Puerto Rican farming community and together they have formed a non profit farm grant program called Amigos de Puerto Rican Eco-Farmers (APREF)100% of the proceeds from the sale of Amigos coffee go directly to support Puerto Rican farmers get back on their feet and farming again through farm grants generated by donors to APREF.

If you feel compelled to donate directly to APREF, you can also make a tax deductible donation to their farm grant program through their Donate page. Your support will make a world of difference.

After repose, we seal the components of this coffee in Grain-Pro barrier packaging at origin and then send on its way to our Roastery where we preserve the green coffee under hermetic seal until it is roasted as part of our Barrington Green Seal Program© .
