Kembata is just south of the capitol of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, and is a part of the larger region known as the SNNPR (Southern, Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Region).
The community surrounding the town of Durame has cultivated and processed this heady natural processed Grade 1 coffee with a focused bunch of powerful fruit flavors.
Their natural process is not typical in that it starts with a 36 – 48 hour wet fermentation stage in their wet mill. After this long fermentation, the cherry is then undergoes a 15 – 21 day drying cycle on raised beds. The addition of the initial wet fermentation stage contributes to the extra fruity cup.
After repose, we seal this coffee in Grain-Pro barrier packaging in Burundi and then send on its way to our Roastery where we preserve the green coffee under hermetic seal until it is roasted as part of our Barrington Green Seal Program© .
