Aroma of rose, with flavors of raspberry, grapefruit, chocolate mousse, peanut butter cookie, black peppercorn, cinnamon and caramel. Long, lingering finish.
This extraordinary coffee from Nepal has a profile unlike any coffee that we have ever tasted before; we think of it as a cross between a savory wet-hulled coffee from Sumatra and a vibrant washed coffee from Kenya. Romantic, exotic, delicious.
The Lekali Estate was established in 2008 by Mingma Dorji Sherpa. Mr. Sherpa’s father, Pasang Phutter Sherpa, was a close friend of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, who, along with Sir Edmund Hillary, made the first known summit of Mount Everest in 1953. Through Mr. Sherpa’s work as a travel operator in Nepal he identified an area in the Ganesh Mountain Range in Northern Nepal surrounding the village of Bhirkune as a potential site for coffee cultivation. He’s been cultivating Caturra and Typica varietals there ever since. This is our second year offering his unique coffee.
After repose, we seal this coffee in Grain-Pro barrier packaging in Nepal and then send on its way to our Roastery where we preserve the green coffee under hermetic seal until it is roasted as part of our Barrington Green Seal Program© .
The Lekali is also available as a part of our 2019 Spring Curated Collection. This Collection includes smaller, 4 ounce bags of three particularly exotic coffees; Lekali from the Nuwakot District in Nepal, Barichu Double from Nyeri, Kenya and and Bura’a from Al Hudaydah Governorate, Yemen. We have designed this collection to inspire every coffee lover along their culinary journey. The Curated Collection will be roasted and sent only on Wednesday of each week.
