Jasmine flower aroma with flavors of honey dew melon, caramelized orange, pink lemonade and a focused minerality with an overlay of garrigue herbals. Delicate.

Finca El Zapote has been in the Meléndez family for over 100 years. The farm is located between two mountain ranges surrounding the Acatenango Volcano. The climate in this valley is an ideal balance of temperature, cloud coverage, mist and sunlight which provide the perfect conditions for coffee cultivation. Julio Meléndez is the current owner and represents the fourth generation of the Meléndez family legacy.

The farm comprises 150 shade grown acres with 5% of the cultivation being devoted to the Gesha arabica variety. They have their own state-of-the-art wet mill along with decades of cupping data, weather data and soil tests. This information helps to evaluate and catalog correlations between production data and cup quality.

Although only a small portion of the farm is planted with Gesha, this variety has served them very well. So well, in fact, that they earned 1st Place at the 2014 SCAA Rain Forest Alliance Competition, with a score of 91.90 points. The Zapote Gesha actually outscored the infamous Peterson Family Hacienda La Esmeralda Gesha that year by 1.95 points!

Finca El Zapote has been certified by the Rainforest Alliance, UTZ and 4C.

After repose, we seal this coffee in Grain-Pro barrier packaging in Guatemala and then send on its way to our Roastery where we preserve the green coffee under hermetic seal until it is roasted as part of our Barrington Green Seal Program© .
