Floral aroma with ripe flavors of black raspberry, black cherry, black currant and Meyer lemon with loads of sweet caramel, cream, vanilla and oolong tea to bolster body. Drinks like a classic, old school washed Ethiopian with full fruit and body.
The Wate Guji won our hearts as we gathered around our cupping table and tasted its laurels; robust, ripe black berry and Meyer lemon flavors backed up by hearty body. The experience reminded us of washed Ethiopian coffees from the 90’s.
Wate Guji is a very high altitude washing station located several hours south of Addis Ababa in Oromia, Ethiopia. The station is named after the Wate River which winds its way through this rugged mountainous countryside. The smallholder producer members surrounding Dimtu Hambela bring their coffee to Wate Guji for centralized processing. Their obsession with all aspects of cultivation, picking and processing has been perfectly captured in this particular lot.
If you enjoy saturated berry flavors and hefty body within a classic Ethiopian tea like package, be sure to give the Wate Guji a try.
The Wate Guji is also available as part of our African Tasting Pair.
After repose, this coffee is sealed in Grain-Pro barrier packaging at origin and then sent on its way to our Roastery where we preserve the green coffee under hermetic seal until it is roasted as part of our Barrington Green Seal Program© .
