A powerhouse of a coffee with winey structure and flavors ranging from cranberry, tangerine, blackberry and black currant to lemongrass, green tea, honey and cinnamon. Reminiscent of a Kenyan SL variety.

Alberto Montoya has spent a lifetime working on coffee farms throughout the Antioquia region of central Colombia. After many years of hard work and saving, he purchased the high altitude woodland perch for his Finca La Arboleda in Urrao. He and his wife, Maria, cultivate their land with a specific focus on the Colombian Coffea arabica Chiroso variety.

Chiroso is a relatively new Colombian variety that possesses complex characteristics of florality, citrus and tannins. “Chiroso” means wild or ragged and was so named for its shaggy foliage. We find Alberto and Maria’s harvest this year to present a lot like a classic old world Kenyan SL variety.

This year’s total Chiroso micro-lot production was 1,824 pounds of which we secured just under half.

The Arboleda Chiroso is also available as part of our Colombia Tasing Pair.

After repose, this coffee is sealed in Grain-Pro barrier packaging at origin and then sent on its way to our Roastery where we preserve the green coffee under hermetic seal until it is roasted as part of our Barrington Green Seal Program© .
